As a retail agent, you must hold a current Property & Casualty agent’s license for the state in which you wish to write the risk. Once a quote is generated,

a base premium will be shown. As the retail agent, you must calculate the appropriate fees and taxes for the state in reference to the base premium.

The information below will help clarify how to calculate fees and taxes to obtain proper premium.

******Note: products not available in  AK, LA, and WV*******

**Please Note: Agents in New York must have a BR license number in order to bind the policy.**
**A Surplus Lines License is required for TN and CA**

**Please contact our National Personal Lines Operation Center for the following States: CA, IA, IL, KY, MT, OR, PA, WA, WY**

For Admitted Quotes- All States

Add the Premium along with Policy Fee to calculate. (Note: Policy Fee is listed on the upper right hand corner of quote).

For Non-Admitted Quotes: By State:

Policy Fee $50 (Except: AR $150, FL $35, DC $150, MI & MN $25)

AL, AZ, AR, CO, DE, FL, GA, ID, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MN, MS, MO, NE, NV, NJ, NM, ND, OH, OK, OR, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI

Taxes are calculated on (Base Premium + Policy Fee) x Surplus Lines Taxes (found on upper right corner of quote)

Example: ($300 + $50) x 6% then $350 x 6% = $21.00 then $350 + $21.00 = Total Premium with fees and taxes = $371.00

CT, DC, HI, MA, ME, MD, MN, NC, NH, NY, RI, VT

Taxes are calculated on Base Premium only

Example:  $300 x 6% + $100
then $300 x 6% = $18 then $300 + $18 + $100 = Total Premium with fee and taxes = $418.00
